Background
The Hostel, comprising of 3 ground floor units of 3-room HDB flats at Block 191 Boon Lay Drive, is home to 11 physically disabled adults.
Facilities
Conveniently situated on the ground floor for easy access, the Hostel has facilities which are adapted to
the needs of disabled people. Each unit is self-contained with bedrooms, kitchen and toilet facilities. Based on twin-sharing, each unit is able to accommodate four disabled persons. These units are also conveniently situated near shops and markets which are easily accessed. Daily transportation to and from the workplace is provided by the SRC. A driver, with a specially equipped van, assists the hostelites
in making their way to and from work everyday. As the hostelites are from the low income group. the SRC heavily subsidised this service, with the hostelites paying only 15% of their nett income for lodging and transportation. The provision of this service encourages the physically disabled to be economically independent citizens.
Activities
Staff and volunteers of the SRC organise social outings and educational visits for the hostelites. Volunteers also make frequent visits to befriend the hostelites and share information on work and daily living skills.
How You Can Help
You can make a difference by extending your free time, resources and skills at befriending our hostelites, organising regular activities and outings. Volunteers are also needed in organising vocational skills workshops that will help our hostelites in enhancing their skills.
